ilke Homes welcomes RICS call to incentivise MMC

ilke Homes welcomes the news that the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has urged the government to offer financial incentives to housing associations and councils to encourage them to build new homes using modern methods of construction (MMC).

Dave Sheridan, ilke Homes’ CEO said: “Social housing is being sold much more quickly than it is being built and councils and housing associations everywhere are under immense pressure to deliver new homes that are desperately needed, right now.

“This endorsement from the RICS is exactly what is needed to create momentum. The government needs to start thinking creatively and realistically about how councils and housing associations can speed up housebuilding and add capacity. This can be done by dedicating a proportion of build to MMC – a method which also makes it more commercially viable to develop smaller sites, including ones that pose a problem for traditional contractors.

“Many of the projects ilke Homes undertakes are done so in partnership with forward thinking housing associations, but the sector desperately needs a boost. Here, financial incentives combined with best practice construction will help add a great deal of capacity to UK housebuilding.

“We welcome this move by the RICS and hope that the recommendations are heeded by the government.”
